A car-racing novice in 2003, Paul first competed behind the wheel in 1996, tackling the Super 4 Short Circuit Championship with a 250cc kart. Switched to the British long-circuit series in 1997 but an accident at the British Kart GP at Silverstone put him out of the cockpit... Competed in the 2003 Volkswagen Racing Cup at the wheel of a Golf TDI and made occasional outings in 2004 in a Polo TDI
